Training and assessment
Build competence in single ply roofing
The single ply roofing industry offers a range of opportunities for an exciting career in a technology that is contemporary and highly relevant to the buildings of today and the future.
SPRA and its membrane manufacturing members offer high quality specialist training programmes leading to accredited or approved qualifications for the single ply industry.

Practical training and qualifications
Awareness training
Small Roofs Training Module
The basic essentials of good flat roofing practice in the domestic sector — from customer relations through design, product selection, installation and handover. Based on the SPRA Design Guide, and the right place to start if you are new to single ply. There is an assessment at the end.
NVQ route — new entrants
SAP — Specialist Applied-Skills Programme
Aimed at new entrants with little or no previous construction experience, giving them the competence and qualification needed to work as a single ply roofer. Five one-week sessions over a year at a dedicated training centre, with site work between sessions under an employer-assigned mentor.
NVQ route — experienced workers
OSAT — On Site Assessment and Training
For experienced single ply operatives with no formal qualification. A SPRA accredited assessor visits the workplace, assesses skills, provides training where needed and helps build the evidence portfolio — so there are no courses to attend and little or no time away from work.
Technical training
Wind loading — protocol for calculations
Online sessions based on the SPRA guidance document Wind Loading: Protocol for Calculations (S11b/19). Relevant to anyone in flat roofing who works with wind loading, members and non-members alike. Participants need experience of the calculation procedure and appropriate software.
Product training
Membrane manufacturer training
SPRA membrane manufacturer members are required, as a condition of membership, to train installers on their products. Product training from a SPRA membrane manufacturer counts towards the national qualification for single ply, and successful installers receive a product training card.
